From Humble Beginnings to a Lasting Presence

What began as an idea by Michael and Stanley Patys in 1947 quickly grew into a vital supplier of industrial hardware and supplies for New Bedford businesses. Originally located on Middle Street along the New Bedford waterfront, the company relocated to its current home at 47 Nauset Street in 1967.

Growth Through Leadership and Innovation

In 1969, General Supply officially incorporated as General Supply and Metals, Inc. Under the leadership of John Patys in 1982, GSM expanded into a full-service metals center, broadening its offerings while upholding the values instilled by its founders.

Committed to the Future

In 2025, Horacio’s, Inc., proudly acquired GSM, further strengthening our capabilities and commitment to providing high-quality materials and industrial supplies. Today, we continue to build on our legacy, serving the evolving needs of Southeastern New England with excellence.
